My name is Sara. I came to Iran with my family from another country. We arrived to Tehran airport by plane.
My grandmother was waiting for us. When I saw her, she gave me a big hug and smiled.
We went to my grandmother’s house. Her house is in Tehran — a home that is big, warm, and full of love.
The delicious smell of Ghormeh Sabzi was coming from the kitchen. Grandma had cooked before we arrived.
What is Ghormeh Sabzi?
Ghormeh Sabzi is a traditional Persian stew. It’s made with herbs, meat, red beans, and dried lime (limoo amani). It is served with Persian rice.
I also helped make Shirazi salad — cucumber, tomato, onion, and lemon juice.
We spread the tablecloth on the floor and ate together.
After lunch, we went to the living room. On the table were tea, sweets, and fruits. My grandfather talked to me about Nowruz and Haft-Sin.
What is Nowruz and Haft-Sin?
Nowruz is the Persian New Year. People clean their homes, wear new clothes, and set a beautiful table called Haft-Sin.
Haft-Sin includes 7 items that start with the Persian letter “س” (S), each with a special meaning:

من سارا هستم. من با خانوادهام از خارج از کشور به ایران آمدم. ما با هواپیما به فرودگاه تهران رسیدیم.
مادربزرگم منتظر ما بود. وقتی او را دیدم، محکم بغلم کرد و لبخند زد.
ما به خانه مادربزرگ رفتیم. خانه او در تهران است — خانهای بزرگ، گرم و پر از عشق.
بوی خورش قرمهسبزی از آشپزخانه میآمد. مادربزرگ قبل از آمدن ما، غذا درست کرده بود.
قرمهسبزی چیست؟
قرمهسبزی یک خورش سنتی ایرانی است. با سبزی خورشتی، گوشت، لوبیا قرمز و لیمو عمانی درست میشود. با برنج ایرانی خورده میشود.
من هم کمک کردم تا سالاد شیرازی درست کنیم — خیار، گوجه، پیاز و آبلیمو.
سفره را روی زمین انداختیم و با هم غذا خوردیم.
بعد از ناهار، به اتاق پذیرایی رفتیم. روی میز، چای، شیرینی و میوه بود. پدربزرگم درباره نوروز و هفتسین برایم صحبت کرد.
نوروز و هفتسین چیست؟
نوروز، سال نو ایرانی است. مردم خانه را تمیز میکنند، لباس نو میپوشند و سفرهای زیبا به نام هفتسین میچینند.
هفتسین شامل ۷ چیز است که با حرف «س» شروع میشوند و هرکدام معنایی خاص دارند:

Man Sārā hastam. Man bā khānevāde-am az khārej az keshvar be Irān āmadam. Mā bā havāpeyemā be foroodgāh-e Tehrān residim.
Mādarbozorgam montazer-e mā bood. Vaghti didamesh, man rā mohkam baghal kard va labkhand zad.
Mā be khāneh-ye mādarbozorg raftim. Khāneh-ye ū dar Tehrān ast — khāneh-i bozorg, garm va por az eshgh.
Bū-ye khosh-e ghormeh sabzi az āshpazkhāneh mi-āmad. Mādarbozorg ghabl az āmadan-e mā, ghazā dorost karde bood.
Ghormeh Sabzi chist?
Ghormeh Sabzi yek khorsh-e sonnati-ye Irāni ast. Bā sabzi, goosht, loobiā-ye qermez va limoo-ye amani dorost mishavad. Bā berenj-e Irāni khorde mishavad.
Man ham komak kardam tā sālad-e Shirāzi dorost konim — khiyār, gojeh, piyāz va āb limoo.
Sofreh rā rooye zamin andākhtim va bā ham ghazā khordim.
Bad az nahār, be otāgh-e pazirāyi raftim. Rūye miz chāy, shirini va meyvā bood. Pedarbozorgam dar bāre-ye Nowruz va haft-sin barāyam sohbat kard.
Nowruz va Haft-Sin chist?
Nowruz sāl-e now-e Irāni ast. Mardom khāneh rā tamiz mikonand, lebas-e now miposhand va sofre-i be nām-e haft-sin michinand.
Haft-Sin shāmel-e 7 chiz ast ke bā harf-e “س” shoroo’ mishavad:
