Nicholas’s mom said happily:
“Nicholas, wake up! Look what a beautiful day it is!”
Nicholas woke up and smiled.
“Good morning, Mom! Good morning, pretty birds!”
Nicholas’s dad said:
“Today is such a beautiful, beautiful day! I think we should all go on a picnic by the river!”
Nicholas asked:
“Can I invite my friend Jacob to come too?”
Mr. Donkey said:
“I love picnics! Don’t forget to take me with you!”
Mrs. Dog said:
“I want to come to the picnic too!”
The birds chirped:
“Follow us! Hurry up!”
Jacob, Mr. Donkey, and Mrs. Dog followed the birds.
Nicholas, his mom, dad, and sister started walking too.
Nicholas shouted:
“Who wants to race to that tree?”
Everyone ran toward the tree — but Mr. Donkey got there first!
Mr. Donkey said proudly:
“I won! I won!”
Nicholas laughed and said:
“That’s not fair! You have four legs!”
Then Nicholas said:
“Look what I can do!”
Jacob replied:
“I bet you can’t do that!”
Mom found a nice spot and said:
“This is perfect! The best place for our picnic!”
Dad said:
“The river looks calm and beautiful today.”
Jacob said:
“Who wants to race me to the riverbank?”
Everyone jumped into the river and splashed around, laughing loudly!
Mom called out:
“Kids! Come and eat your food!”
They all sat down and ate delicious fruit and sandwiches.
Mom said:
“It’s time to go home.”
Jacob went back to his house, and everyone said goodbye.
Nicholas went home too.
Jacob, feeling very tired, lay down in his bed and dreamed the sweetest dreams. 🌙
